I called the utility company to complain about the high utility bill for my small office building. The lights and anything else we use during the day is only on about 8.5 to 9 hours per day at most, which is no different than any of the other businesses nearby. But they told me that their data is correct, and I use more than anyone else nearby. They said that I should look into getting insulation or window tint in Sydney to see if that was the problem. I still felt that the utility company was at fault.
After receiving yet another inflated bill, I called the utility company once again and demanded that someone come to my business location and do an assessment. My building doesn’t see any different than anyone else’s building, I told myself. The employee told me they would be happy to do that. They sent someone out the very next week to handle it because I told them that if they were at fault, I had no interest in paying for another month at a price that is more than it should be, and I told them that I was going to demand a refund if their data was off as well. Well, the guy who was here did a good job. I hovered around to make sure that he was checking things correctly, and the numbers for how much electricity I use was correct.
My only option after that was to do exactly what I was told previously, which was to look into making sure that the building is properly insulated and the windows are tinged. I knew that insulation would mean I would need to hire someone to come out and check out all the walls. So,instead, I went the more inexpensive route of tinting every window in the place. Guess what? It worked. It lowered my bill by about 30% the next month.
